Attributed to Giacomo Cavedone (Italian, 1577-1660) Madonna and Child in Glory with Saints Ink, wash, and red chalk heightened with white on laid paper 9-5/8 x 7-1/4 inches (24.4 x 18.4 cm) (sheet) Signed lower center: Giac. Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: (Probably) Giovanni Piancastelli (1845-1926), Rome; Mary Brandegee (1871-1956), Brookline, Massachusetts, probably acquired from the above, circa 1904; Central Galleries, New York; Savoy Art & Auction Galleries, New York, April 23, 1960, lot 15; Acquired by the present owner from the above. On the basis of photographs, scholar Laura Giles stated in a letter dated July 24, 1987 that the work was "certainly by Cavedone." Additionally, art historian Babette Bohn and Christie's specialist Francois Borne examined the work in person on separate occasions in 1998 and 2000, respectively, both supporting the attribution to Cavedone.
