On the basis of photographs, scholar Laura Giles stated in a letter dated July 24, 1987 that the work was "certainly by Cavedone." Additionally, art historian Babette Bohn and Christie's specialist Francois Borne examined the work in person on separate occasions in 1998 and 2000, respectively, both supporting the attribution to Cavedone.
