拍品信息
Giovanni Andrea Carlone (Italian, 1639-1697) Madonna of the Rosary with Saints Brown ink, brown wash, and sanguine on paper 14-1/8 x 10-1/2 inches (35.9 x 26.7 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Unnamed auction, New York, 1989 (as Giovanni Battista Gaulli); Acquired by the present owner from the above. Maria Clelia Galassi confirmed the attribution to Carlone in a letter dated July 22, 1994, observing that the work was possibly a preparatory drawing for the altarpiece of the Chiesa di Gesù e Maria in Genoa, which was destroyed in the early 19th century. Carmen Bombach of The Metropolitan Museum of Art agreed; Bombach examined the work in person in January of 1996, and in a letter dated May 13, 1996, further confirmed the attribution and its likely status as a squared modello for the lost Genoese altarpiece.
