Attributed to Philip A. Harrington (American, 1920-2009) Two Chinese Children, 1957 Gelatin silver print 13-1/4 x 10-3/8 inches (33.7 x 26.4 cm) (image/sheet) In 1957, Harrington entered China against a U.S. State Department ban on newsman entering the communist nation. The Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, threatened to jail Harrington, or at least revoke his passport. Harrington responded by sending a telegraph that the roads were washed out and he could not return. The articles produced from these images won Harrington and Edmund Stevens the George Polk award for magazine reporting.
