"The Carrying of the Cross and La Déploration date from 1498-1499; more monumental and legible, these scenes are closer to the more classical images of The Apocalypse. They were sold in sheets by Dürer, before he embarked on a more complete publishing project in 1511, when he had just bought his own presses and wished to publish his large series, adding to them as necessary."
